About Hairball Notes
Hairball Notes is a small, free library about one thing: why cats get hairballs, how much is normal, and what helps prevent them. It is written for ordinary cat homes - clear steps, no jargon, no miracle promises - and made by the team behind PawLine, the research-based cat & dog Q&A app. PawLine app, patent pending.
How the guides are written
Every guide starts from the questions people actually ask, then builds on established veterinary and cat-welfare sources, cited below. We keep wording neutral, name the source when a claim matters, and avoid invented statistics. These guides are general information, not veterinary advice - your vet knows your cat.
Sources
- The Danger of Hairballs - Cornell Feline Health Center: what trichobezoars are, why swallowed keratin is inevitable, normal frequency, obstruction signs, and why laxatives need veterinary approval.
- Vomiting in cats - Cats Protection: vomiting vs regurgitation, the range of causes vets consider, and when vomiting needs urgent examination.
- Digestive problems in cats - Cats Protection: digestive signs worth investigating, including vomiting and hairball management.
- Grooming your cat - International Cat Care: brushing technique, keeping sessions positive, and grooming changes in senior cats.
